McKamey argues that the most important skill for a teacher is his or her ability to build trust with a student

McKamey argues correctly. As a teacher, I discover that the most important thing I can do is create trust with my students — in fact, if I fail to do that, I’m going to fail at everything else. I love the suggestions here and I’m going to try to implement them when I teach writing. What I love most is how hopeful this is. Changing how I teach can make a difference. I’m excited to see that.
